20 Reasons Why WE MUST TRAVEL

Travel has become one of the most common & popular phenomenon these days and rightly so. We all see travel stories, advertisements, photos, blogs and vlogs on different social media platforms and somehow it certainly excites us to plan our own vacations. The big question is did you ever think why travel is becoming so popular across the globe? Well there can be hundreds of reasons why We Must Travel but here I would like to mention the top 20 reasons why WE MUST TRAVEL.

1. Travel is a great way of learning while having fun

Meet Birender – a knowledgeable tour guide in Kathmandu from whom I learnt a lot about Nepal’s history and culture. It was so much fun

Mark Twain said “One must travel to learn” and this is so true. Travel is a form of education in itself as you get to see new places, meet new people, learn new things, experience new cultures, explore new territories, learn new languages and try different cuisines. This opens our eyes, develops our thought process, broadens our horizons and we see the world from a different perspective. It gives us a true insight and in depth understanding of every place we visit. It makes us realize that no matter how much we know there is always more to learn. It teaches us different subjects like economy, politics, history, geography, sociology and science.

There is a famous quote from Saint Augustine “The World is a book and those who do not travel read only a page”. That’s true if you have not really travelled well then you really do not understand the world and its functioning.

The famous quote from Prophet Mohammed says “Do not tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you have travelled”. This means travel in another form of education.

2. Travel can help us discover our hidden skills and talent

Mountain biking for the first time in Queenstown, New Zealand. During this thrilling experience I discovered my love for outdoor sports

When we get out of our home and manage a trip, climb a mountain peak, swim across a River, self drive for long hours, manage resources well, utilized our limited time well, help local people, donate something to underprivileged and safely return home we realize that we have got immense skills & talent that we never used. We discover something new about ourselves or we rediscover ourselves.

Travelling to different places, seeing new things and meeting new people can go a long way in shaping and developing us as a person.

There is a famous quote by Miriam Beard is “Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it’s a change that goes on, deep and permanent in the ideas of living”.

3. Travel is an adventure

Our first Camel ride in Pushkar, Rajasthan turned out to be a great adventure and laughter riot.

Life is nothing without risks and adventures. Our every holiday is an adventure in itself. Going to a new destination, seeing new sights, meeting the unknown people, trying something you have never done it and eating something you never tasted it. This is all part of adventure. There is famous quote “Jobs fill our pocket, adventures fill our soul’’. We must fill our soul with full of adventures.

4. Travel makes new friends & connections

Meet our tour guide Lotay who is my first Bhutanese friend. He lives in Thimphu, Bhutan. We are still connected and miss the days spent together in Bhutan

Travel gives us an opportunity to meet different people. When we travel we are certain to meet new people who may turn out to become our best friends or reliable local contacts. Such connections always help & support each other in ample ways.

5. We start respecting new cultures

These two Javanese girls in Indonesia starting their career in travel industry have great understanding of different religions and cultures. Their faith is Islam but have deep knowledge of Hinduism

When we are staying in our surroundings then we believe your culture is great and unique. It’s only when we travel outside our region and see new cultures, we learn they are as great as ours. We get to meet locals and interact with them that help us learning about their lifestyle. We learn the traditions, festivals, folklores and myths of a place. We start appreciating the differences and diversities of the world. Civilizations and cultures have been in existence for over centuries and they are influenced by their geographical regions so they are strikingly varied. Visiting new regions makes us study different cultures and their existence.

6. To create lovely moments and everlasting memories

I am a wildlife enthusiasts and Borneo Island is a perfect destination for nature and wildlife lovers. My trip to Borneo, Malaysia is still one of the most memorable trip of my life

Life is all about the moments we enjoy and memories we live with. Who doesn’t enjoy nostalgia? We always look back at our school or college photos with a smile and relive memories of it. It gives us immense joy and happiness encapsulating old days. Same goes with our travel history. When we recount our travel history we feel quite emotional and think of going back to the same place once again. These are unforgettable and everlasting memories.

7. To strengthen bond with our loved ones

Our honeymoon trip to Nepal was our first trip together and still reminds us how deep we developed our bond on the tour. During this trip we truly fell in love with each other

Travel is the best way to improve and strengthen our relation with our partner, friends and family. We need to take our time off from school or work to recharge our batteries and relax. Advanced technology, busy schedule and hectic life has kept us so busy that we spend more time texting our loved ones than rather real face to face interaction. So holidays allows us to spend some quality time with our beloved people. The continuous discussions, exchange of thoughts, sharing visions, problems and goals with each other during travel always helps each other to understand what kind of people we are. Life is meant good companions and great adventures.

People who travel together stay together.

8. To get full freedom & let our hair down

And the party begins in the coastal city of Pattaya, Thailand. Its time to raise a toast and let our hair down

It is so important to take a break from our daily busy lives and enjoy freedom. When we travel we have the freedom to live life on our terms and spend time the way we want it to be. It’s the best time when we let our hard down and dive deep into the oceans of joy & madness. Whether it’s talking non sense, getting casual, dancing, singing or having nonstop drinks all is acceptable when you travel. It’s those moments when we disappear and get lost into another world.

9. To become a great storyteller

Visited 9th century UNESCO World heritage site of Borobudur Temple in Java, Indonesia. It is the largest Buddhist temple complex in the world. I still tell everyone of my exciting stories of Yogyakarta and suggest everyone to visit it once in a life

There is a famous quote “Travelling first leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller’’. Through our travel experiences we are certain to share endless interesting stores with others. The more we travel the more stories we have. Travel makes us become a lifetime storyteller.

10. To experience Time Travel

Early morning boat ride in ancient and eternal city of Varanasi. Here its feel like going back in time.

We all love to get a feel of time travel and traveling to different places is actually like time travel. Visiting places like New York, London and Tokyo we get a feel that we are in future. The skylines, skyscrapers, transportation, infrastructure, and advanced technology make us feel that we are in 2050. On the other hand places like Rajasthan, Iran, Syria and Uzbekistan gives us a feel that we are in past. Ancient heritage sites, historical monuments, old Palaces, art, bazaars and heritage towns makes us feel that we are living in medieval times.

11. Travel is the language of peace

Buddhism is all about promoting peace, harmony and wisdom. We must visit monasteries to get better understanding of their teachings. I visited 600 years old Thikse monastery located in high altitudes of Ladakh.

This is the famous line from Mahatma Gandhi who is known to be Father of our Nation. Through travel there is exchange of people, culture, trade, ideas and traditions. This is what brings two nations or states closer and cements peace, prosperity and progress. Once peace prevails it improves people to people ties.

12. To get out of our comfort zone & experience an extra ordinary life

I met and interacted with Monks in Gangtey monastery, Bhutan to understand their monastic lifestyle and beliefs. It was truly an extra ordinary and great experience for me

Travelling to different places means travelling out of our shell, getting out of our comfort zone, seeing the world that exists outside our surroundings and makes us start thinking out of the box. It extends our capabilities to the farthest point.

There is a famous quote “We must travel in the direction of our fear”. So let’s get out of our comfort zone and overcome fear.

It gives us positive and extra ordinary life experiences that we never imagined. It could be climbing a Himalayan peak in Nepal, seeing a Tiger in the wild jungles of India, cruising on a River in Europe,  seeing northern lights in Scandinavia, bungee jumping in New Zealand, scuba diving in Great Barrier Reef, seeing an active volcano in Indonesia, meeting monks at a Buddhist monastery in Bhutan, watching emperor Penguins in Antarctica, etc. Through these positive experiences we overcome fear. We become fearless and that’s when our life becomes limitless. These are not ordinary encounters that we often get to witness. These are life time, life changing and life enriching experiences.

13. To Fall in love with Mother Nature

Lost in the incredible beauty of tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. I can not express in words the scintillating beauty of rolling hills

Through our journeys we come closer to Mother Nature. With every minute spent and walk in nature we fall deeper in love with it. We love, appreciate and admire the tremendous beauty that our nature possesses. We realize humans and nature have to live together in harmony. Both have been living together for centuries and they are inseparable. Mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, plantations, forests, sea, coastlines and sands are pristine and we can never live without them.

14. To start caring for our environment & wildlife

Spent some time at Thai Elephant care centre in Chiang Mai, Thailland who takes care of elderly and rescued Elephants

This is really a very great reason for us to travel. When we travel we understand the nuances and details of problems that our environment and wildlife is facing. Our water bodies are depleting, wild animals are losing their territory, poaching, man-animal conflicts, degrading green cover and global warming are few of the issues we are facing. We become serious about these issues and start taking them seriously.

The famous line from Sir David Attenborough says “No one will protect what they do not care about, and no one will care about what they have never experienced”.

15. Travel is happiness

So happy and excited I am to meet kids of Laos. It was such an amazing moment for me and brings smile on my face whenever I look at this picture

Yes travel is happiness and that’s why it is our company’s tagline. We believe people who take more vacations are happier than others. Travel is fun, excitement, happiness, and ecstasy. Travel refresh, revitalize and boosts up our mood to makes us more emotionally and mentally strong. It fills our heart with happiness & soul with accomplishments.

There is a famous saying “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations’’. This means when we meaningfully travel hard then we are certainly rewarded with great contentment.

16. To fulfill higher purpose of living

At Gaumukh (source of River Ganges) I realized how drastically the River has depleted. The tree cover is almost gone and soon this River will dry up completely if we do not take action now. I want to lead a campaign “Clean River Ganga”

We are always busy in our 9 to 5 job, promotion, appraisal, growth, salary, corporate lifestyle and financial status. We are always on our phone and laptop screens that we forget to see the big screen of this beautiful world. We completely forget that there is a life to enjoy as well. We completely forget that our purpose of living should be beyond that and as a human being it’s our responsibility to make this world a better place. It’s only through travel we realize that there is more to do rather than just a job.  It makes us modest and we realize how tiny place we occupy in this world. So our existence is negligent in this vast world. Travel serves your life with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

17. Travel certainly gives us an unfiltered view of the world

On my trip to Kashmir I realized how hospitable and wonderful Kashmiri people are. At every step here, sceneries takes your breath away and people win over your heart

With so much negativity, criticism and chaos around the world it’s really hard to get a real view of the world.  In this polarized world we live in, travel is essential in breaking down the preconceived notions & misconceptions that we have about other countries and cultures. We get only one side of the picture and if we don’t travel we don’t get to see the other side of it. Travel gives us different perspective of the world and we see it through our new eyes. Such unfiltered understanding of the world only comes when we have meaningful, insightful and authentic travel experiences.

18. Travel is safe and inexpensive

I thought travelling to developed countries like Singapore is too expensive but in fact was not the case

Yes travel is 100% safe in fact safer than ever before. So book a trip through your reliable travel agent and certainly you will return 100% safe. At the same time travel has never be as inexpensive as these days. The Airfares, Hotel rates, transportation and sightseeing has never been so cheap in the history of mankind. So make the most of it and plan your travel now without the second thought. Travel as often as possible because our world is a beautiful place and it’s tragic if we are holding us back in the fear of safely and expenses. We can always plan it well to keep it safe and save our money to fit into our budget.

19. You only live once

Sri Lanka is a paradise for beach lovers. Relaxing in a Pool on beachside Amari Galle Hotel in Sri Lanka. Live and enjoy every moment because you only live once

Isn’t this true? There is one life to live so let’s live in today and enjoy every moment of it. Life is too short to have travel plans in future so plan and execute as soon as possible.

The famous quote from Dalai Lama says ‘’Once a year go someplace you have never been before’’. This quote reverberates every time when I am planning to travel to a new destination. Traveling to a new destination always brings excitement, fun, discovery and learning.

One of my favorite quote on travel is “It’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times”. Isn’t this true? When we read, hear or watch regularly about a place then sub consciously we start imagining ourselves there. So how cool it is when we plan and travel there.

20. To live a life of NO Regrets

While trekking to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery in Paro I got tired and was then in two minds shall I go up to the top or not? Finally I decided YES I will go up to the top and visit monastery. It took little extra efforts and I believe it was my right decision. Had I not done it then I would have regretted it forever

Mark Twain in his famous quote said “20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor and catch the trade winds in your sails”. We are completely in agreement with it and strongly believe we should not have any regrets at the end of our life. Travel while we are young and able. Do not worry about the money, just make it work. Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be. Investment in travel is an investment in us. Let’s make it count and maximize this time to best possible extent. When we will be in our last moments on death bed we should have minimum regrets for the things we did not do.

Here is a bonus picture of mine with Emu Bird in Auckland Zoo, New Zealand. Native to Australia Emu is second largest living bird in the world

So We Must Travel as much as we can, as far as we can and as long as we can. Life is not meant to be lived in one place. We must travel like a free bird at every given opportunity. Today lets make this a travel philosophy “When something good happens, travel to celebrate. If something bad happens then travel to forget it. If nothing happens, travel to make something happen’’.

Hope these 20 reasons inspire you to travel the world now. If you are planning a vacation or holiday in or outside India then please feel free to contact us at +91 9871340295 or write us at office@wemusttravel.in
